Your Guide to Choosing the Right Business Signage

Business signage serves a variety of purposes, from shaping first impressions to increasing footfall and highlighting key customer information. With that in mind, you need to select the material, design and position of your signs carefully. Not sure where to start? Whether you’re launching a new business or revamping your existing signage, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll outline the options available to you and what to consider when making your choice.

Professionally printed signs for businesses

As sign makers with two decades of experience, we design, print and cut numerous business advertising materials. This includes bespoke brand signs for indoor and outdoor use as follows:

Fascia signs

Fascia signs are the primary signs mounted on the front of a building, often above the entrance. They are a key branding element for brick-and-mortar businesses, including retail stores, cafes, restaurants, salons and more. In fact, as they’re designed to be spotted from a distance, your fascia sign is likely the first thing that passersby will see. Good business signage will help people locate you, make you stand out and provided it is on-brand and professionally printed, boost your credibility too.

The most common type of fascia sign is a tray sign, mounted above your storefront with hidden fixings for a neat finish. Aluminium signs are a long-lasting choice and vinyl graphics can be applied on top to display your business name, logo and contact number. Or you could go for a simple painted backdrop complete with affordable flat cut lettering for a sleek, modern look.

Alternatively, built-up letters can be mounted directly onto a wall with stand-off fixings to create an eye-catching 3D floating effect. Check out the custom black acrylic logo and lettering we created for Top Golf’s façade, as an example. Or we can offer business signage that projects outwards to increase your visibility from different angles. Very useful on crowded high streets!

Foamex signs

Made from compressed PVC, our sturdy Foamex signs are a cost-effective signage option for indoor use or temporary outdoor displays. Vibrant graphics can be printed directly onto the surface, on one or both sides as preferred, with a matte or gloss finish. And given that they are lightweight and malleable, Foamex signs are easy to fix to walls, posts and exhibition stands.

Typical applications include event signage, point-of-sale (POS) displays and interior wall displays due to their affordability and crisp visuals. You can also use Foamex signs outdoors for pop-up shop branding and construction site hoarding advertisements. However, they aren’t as weather-resistant as aluminium or acrylic, so we’d only suggest using them in the short-term.

The Bluedot Display team also used Foamex business signage to add personality and disguise uneven walls at venues like Kidspace, Romford. And to temporarily partition off certain areas at Surrey Sports Park. In short, the possibilities are endless with these versatile brand signs!

Dibond aluminium signs

If you’re looking for robust business information signs that will last, Dibond could be the best material for your needs. Made from an aluminium composite, they are resistant to fading, rusting and warping, whatever the weather. As such, they’re ideal for outdoor use, including wall or post-mounted wayfinding signage, safety notices, site hoarding and car park signs.

Meanwhile, local adventure park Hobbledown Heath utilised Dibond for their information boards and attraction signs. You can also use it indoors for permanent displays and directional signs. These hardwearing signs are highly versatile and worth the investment for long-term use!

Whatever you need, the smooth surface makes a great base for lettering, vinyl wraps or direct printing. While typically flat, Dibond signs can also be curved or bent to shape. Just tell us what you need and we’ll create it, including single sheets of up to 3m x 1.5m in practically any shape.

Pavement signs

Whether you want to make your retail outlet more visible or promote your key menu items like Bla Bla Café, pavement signs offer a flexible business signage solution. Highly portable, they can be positioned outside your premises as an extension of your branding. This is most useful for businesses set back from the main thoroughfare who want to increase their foot traffic. And you may also see larger models with water-fillable bases stationed on petrol forecourts to highlight special offers.

Choose from several different styles, including A-board pavement signs with posters in clear casings or aluminium panels with vinyl graphics. These temporary lightweight signs are easy to manoeuvre and fold slat for storing. Alternatively, you could opt for a swing board sign with a suspended aluminium panel or clip frame. These are designed to sway gently in the breeze to catch the attention of potential customers. Either way, you can easily swap out your business advertising with new posters or vinyl graphics as promotions change and new products arrive.

Just be aware that your local council may regulate the use of pavement signs. For example, in Surrey, you can have one sign per premises and it must be removed when the store is closed.
